Music can be a powerful and formative influence in children's lives. Through a unique public/private initiative, Gifts of Music was created to encourage and support young students in their pursuit of music.
Gifts of Music joins the resources of West Hartford Public Schools, the Community Division of the Hartt School of Music, private donors, and Hartford Foundation for Public Giving; partners qualifying students with professional musicians from the Community Division of Hartt School for weekly instrumental lessons; collects and recylces used instruments; supports supervised after-school practice sessions for an additional population of students.
A Gifts of Music fund, managed by a dedicated group of volunteers, was established at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving in 2002 as a perpetual endowment to support the Gifts of Music program.
